About The Iowa Stater

History of Restaurants and Bars at the Gateway Hotel & Conference Center

1978    Gateway Center Motor Hotel opens, featuring the relatively formal State Room restaurant and The Green Gander bar.

1988   Summerfields replaces the State Room, providing a more informal dining experience.  The bar's name is changed to The North Forty, with a rustic farming décor.

2000   Summerfield's is transformed into Audubon's, an upscale establishment named after and featuring the art of naturalist, painter and gastronome John Audubon.

2010   Audubon's makes way for The IowaStater Restaurant and a casual dining experience featuring a fresh take on comfort food.
