Chef Joe Weisz was one of just 12 top chefs invited to compete in the Iowa Pork Producers Association's Taste of Elegance competition on January 24. Chef Joe earned the second place "Superior Chef" Award for his Espresso Pork Tender.

The IowaStater Restaurant was featured in the Des Moines Register on November 2, 2010 in an article discussing the Thanksgiving favorite, green bean casserole.
"For a lot of people, green bean casserole has just always been there," Joe Weisz, the 28-year-old executive chef at the Gateway Hotel's new IowaStater Restaurant in Ames, said last week. "It brings back memories of eating at grandmother's."

The Grand Opening celebration for The IowaStater Restaurant will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2010. Specials offered during the Grand Opening include a prime rib dinner for $12.00, as well as $2.00 draft beer.

Ames will soon have a new dining destination. The IowaStater Restaurant, a warm, casual dining establishment focusing on contemporary American cuisine, will open to the public on August 31 at Gateway Hotel.

Ames, Iowa – What is now known as Audubon’s Restaurant, located in Gateway Hotel & Conference Center at Iowa State University, will close its doors on Sunday, August 1 for a complete renovation that will overhaul the space, décor, and menu. The restaurant opened as Audubon’s in 2000, and showcases the artwork of John James Audubon.
